WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) announced today that two students from the Northern Panhandle began summer internships this week in his Washington office. While in the Senator’s Washington office, Joseph Sampson of Follansbee and Christopher Reinard of Weirton will be assisting the Senator’s staff and learning about the functions of the United States Senate.

"Internships provide students with hands-on experience working in government as well as the opportunity to explore a career in public service," said Rockefeller. "Interns are a huge help to both me and my staff, and I am glad to be able to give young West Virginians like Joe and Chris the chance to help their state."

Joseph Sampson, a senior at Bethany College, is the son of Alan and Susan Sampson of Follansbee. Sampson graduated from Brooke High School in 1997 and is pursuing a degree in Political Science with plans to enter law school in 2002.

Christopher Reinard recently graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a degree in Political Science. He is the son of Timothy and Angela Reinard of Weirton and plans to pursue a career in public service following law school.
