February 21, 2001 SENATOR ROCKEFELLER APPLAUDS NEW AIRLINE SERVICE INTO CLARKSBURGWASHINGTON – Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) applauded the efforts of the Clarksburg Airport, aerospace community, and Delta Express carrier Com Air today for bringing the first regional jet service to the area. Delta Express carrier Com Air will begin one round trip flight per day in early April, departing out of Clarksburg at 6:45 a.m. and returning from Cincinnati at 8:05 p.m. "This new passenger service will create competition, which will hopefully bring down the cost of flying into West Virginia," Rockefeller said, adding, "It will also be a good option for business people who often travel in and out of the Clarksburg area." Recognizing that this is important for the Clarksburg area, Rockefeller said, "Through numerous conversations I’ve had with Delta’s CEO Leo Mullin, I have consistently been impressed with their great instincts for untapped markets. Last year, they reinstated service to Huntington and will soon begin this service to Clarksburg, giving passengers a choice of both airports and airlines." The Clarksburg Airport has been working on expanding for many years to accommodate this type of passenger flight. The airport was already used by Delta Express carrier Com Air to bring airplanes into the Bombardier facility for servicing. "Since the Bombardier facility has been doing maintenance on the Com Air planes, it was a logical step for Com Air to explore the potential of carrying passengers into Clarksburg," Rockefeller said. "This is good news for the airport and for the community."
